January:

When I think of January, the only thing that really comes to mind is Amandas wedding.  And everything that went into that.  So it really surprised me that when I looked back I had actually written other things.  Things that I dont recall writing!  Things about Gumption, and ice skating.  The things you forget!  But I think Amandas wedding still stole the cake.  No puns intended.

February:

Didnt really seem to have too much going for it.  But I did take pictures of the cats – perhaps the only ones I took all year.  Got asked to go to Mexico.  And had a bit more time to reflect on things or people that are important to me.

March:

A month that started out somewhat slow (and with a post that has brought more views than any other, oddly enough) ended with a trip to Mexico and memories that will last forever.

April:

Proved to be a very…random month.  With a post about France, some new favorite pictures, and a top secret from one dog to another!  I also wrote part one “What does it mean to trust in Jesus” a post I often re-read myself.

May:

We added Miss Yoshi to the family.  And apparently, between her and flowers – I didnt write about much else!  Although I did re-post a favorite from 2010 which is a must reread for me before I think about embarking on another trip!

June:

FlowersDogsFlowersFlowersDogs.  And more flowers.  Seriously.  Someone should have told me to STOP with the flowers already!  Its ok.  We didnt get too many more after this.  But this post was kind of funny (and look!  Flowers!)

July:

I dont like lists.  But I made one this month.  Or did I?  Then we went to China.  Where posting wasnt really an option.

August:

After we returned from China, Amanda & David went to Australia then came here for a bit.  YAY!  Little miss grew up right before our eyes.  And I thought about Mexico, not China.  Go figure.  As much time as possibly was spent at the beach, even though we didnt get much summer this year.

September:

If you dont have any clue what that picture is either A) You have never lived, or B) You have never read this post.  Jim Jams have been ruining our lives since September!  I thought about Faith, and Peace ironically enough.  More flowers showed up (guess I wasnt done with them just yet), and dad had his hernia operation which meant he couldnt work and we had to try and help.

October:

…was the calm before the storm.  I dog sat.  Wrote another list.  Finally wrote a post on China, and remembered the “Good ol’ days” that really?  Werent THAT great!  Oh yea, and talked about Yoshi.  Again.

November:

Had absolutely nothing to do with the picture.  Except that I attempted fudge round one and never said anything.  I spent a lot of time thinking about being Thankful, and what it meant.  Yoshi saw her first snow.  Part two of “What does it mean to trust in Jesus” arrived.  And I debated the Laptop vs the Tablet and other fun randomness.  The Laptop won.  In-case you wondered.

December:

I could seriously just say fudge and be done.  I attempted a new FUDGE recipe, failed at another, and finally SUCCESS!  Made cardboard trees before our real tree was up, shopped, wrapped, and packed boxes for relatives.  Wrote a not so popular post about customer service and wished you all a Happy New year.

Or, wait.  I didnt actually do that yet…so…

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

“May all your troubles last as long as your New Year’s resolutions”

Me: Hi, is Pete* there? (After calling a son by his mothers name one too many times, I have taken to asking for the person, even if it is the person I think I am calling for)

Unidentified Person: Yea sure. Just a second.

*Silence*

UP: Can I tell him who this is?

Me: I tell him who I am, and that Im calling with the shop.

UP (muffled yelling): It’s the shop.

{In the background: Is it about the truck?}

UP: Is it about the truck.

Me: *Fearing this will be a long phone call*: Yea, did you just want to let him know its ready to go?

UP (muffled yelling): Yea.

{In the background: Is it done?}

Son: Is it done?

Me: Uh…yea.

UP (muffled yelling): Yea its done.

*Silence and that awkward moment where Im not sure if I have been hung up on, or if they are listening to hear if Im breathing. Taking the safe route I hold my breath.*

UP: You still there?

Me: Yep.

UP (muffled yelling): Yea.

{Undetected voices.}

UP: We will be out to get it in a little.

*End scene*

So…now the question is this: Was the dad A) Busy? B) Training his son to talk on the phone or C) watching tv? Also – is their phone connected to a cord? I didn’t know those still existed!

*Names changed to protect the innocent.

Oh….what a morning. Question of the day – Why is there a duck here?
December 31 (2010)

A “You’ve been elf-ed” Project:

Followed by 15 boxes to various relatives, and not pictured, 50 some odd Christmas cards and pictures.

Fudge making and an epic santa hat failure!

Attempted (twice) Failed (twice)

We ate the bugles and made more fudge instead.

I babysat and made cardboard trees with the kids.

We got a box from a favorite someone in England!  YAY!!!  (Hi Capn!)

We got a tree and got it up and decorated A WEEK before Christmas – Usually we are trimming the tree Christmas Eve!

We stayed up late chewing bones under the tree…

While others stayed up trying to get pictures of the tree…and finally had to settle on some cool light shots instead.

Maybe next year

Then we woke up Christmas morning to find out Santa still comes!

{Then we went to church, played hand-bells, came home, got an attitude, and waited a few hours before finally ripping in}

To find Jim-Jams!  And the first season of Walking Dead!

And of course, candy!  Santa raided the candy store this year!  Gooo Santa!

Yoshi got a bone, and unwrapped her first gift (after opening it Christmas eve)

And even shared with Slim

Merry Christmas!  Overall we had a really great day, and not just because of the gifts.  Hope you had the same!

Or alternatively titled: My angry rant on customer service, part two!

Im all for womens/mens rights.  My stance on it is this: If you can do it, then do it.  If not, then step down and let someone else who can do it, do it.  No need to stand there making a bigger fool of yourself while you prove to the world what they already know – that you cant do it.  No need to take advantage of the position.  Its simple.  If you cant do it, then don’t!

One thing that I have found over my years of making deposits/payments/solving issues at banks is this, guys should NOT work in banks.  Im sorry, if you happen to be a man, filling the position at the bank, my intent is not to offend, but rather offer some advice – step down.  And nobody gets hurt.  In all my years of “Banking” I have never had good luck with guy bank tellers.  Sorry, but I havent.

The first bad experience came when I was just a wee thing.  Probably 12 years old.  Standing in line to make a deposit.  While standing there, the next available teller came available.  Standing beside me was another man waiting to make a deposit, not sure if he had been there first I offered him the chance, he declined and I stepped forward.  Only to be told that I needed to be more “Assertive!” the bank teller went on to tell me how next time I should just boldly step up.  When really, all I wanted to do was make a deposit.  It was the first time I got a bad taste in my mouth for male bank tellers.

A second incident occurred a short while later while making another deposit.  The man commented on my shirt.  Which happened to be a disney land shirt.  He told me he liked it.  That he had been there before too.  That it was indeed the happiest place on earth!  All the while I stood there in that awkward silence wishing he would simply take my deposit and let me go on my way.

The next incident occurred earlier this year.  While at the same bank, I stood in a rather long line waiting my turn to make a deposit.  When a man, dressed in a suit and tie stepped out of nowhere.  Standing right beside me, his tall figure shadowed over me.  He smiled.  “Here to make a deposit?” He asked, rather too cheerfully.  I raised an eyebrow and confessed that, yes I was.  Not sure if I should be apologizing or what.  “Right this way.”  He ushered me towards a room.  Once inside, he pulled the chair out and offered me a seat.  Awkwardly, I accepted, and him, his suit and plaid tie went around to the other side.  Pressing his tie firmly into place.  He folded his hands and smiled.  “What can I do for you today?” He smiled again.  “Just…a deposit” I said.  Looking around I wasn’t sure what to expect next.  Clowns?  A parade?  Confetti falling from the sky?  He did my deposit with some more small talk before standing up and ushering me out the door.

Finally, today.

I went to the bank.  To make a routine deposit.  Because of the church deposit, I normally have a little bit more coin than on average.  Today was no exception.  There were not enough coins to make a roll, and so there I dumped my coins on the counter.  There was maybe $5 in assorted coins.  Instead of sorting the coin and counting, the man behind the counter pulled out a tray and spent the next five minutes sorting coins into different slots.  About ½ way into this adventure he stopped sorting and looked me in the eye.  “After this, we are no longer accepting unrolled coins.”  He said.  “Um.  Ok?”  “Yea, after this, if you have more than a handful of coin, that isn’t rolled, you will have to put it in the coin sorter.”  He paused.  “And there IS a charge for that.”  Seriously?  So now if I have extra coins – the bank is no longer accepting this.  And if there isn’t enough to roll I have to PAY to have it counted?  Im a little confused – is this not what we pay the bank teller for?

This is why, when I go to a bank, I survey the tellers.  And if at all possible, I avoid them.  Step down, people.  If you cant count coin.  If you cant count, period, then why.  WHY.  Are you working in a bank?  Counting, sorting, money.
