I dont know about anyone else, but lately we have been the victims of the internet going down. It seems to be a common occurrence as of lately, and by that, of course, I mean twice in one month. Way too many times if you ask me. Here are some helpful tips should you find yourself in an internet less situation.

Stay Calm

For approx 5 seconds while it registers with you. Then feel free to freak out with the rest of us. Once you calm down proceed to step number two.

Check All connections

No I don’t mean check all the various connections you have set up (although seeing if your neighbors are still connected might be a good idea) I mean check the cables. Unplug everything and attempt to plug it back in. Make a bigger mess of your already big mess of wires while attempting to plug them back in. This should keep you occupied for a few minutes and take your mind off the fact that you are infact, internet less. It is also known to cause great panic, revert to step one if this is the case.

Call for backup

Once you have done all you can do, make the dreaded call to tech support. Keep in mind they will treat you like the rest of the internet less fools out there. Hold your ground. Explain to them that you have already done steps 1-3 and are ready for some real help. They will redirect you to unplug all the wires and cables and then tell you how to correctly replug them in. This is their way of telling you they have no idea what is going wrong but they are working on it and are just stalling so they don’t have to answer the other 300,000 plus phone calls of helpless folks such as yourself.

Remind yourself the coffee pot still works

You might even have to remind yourself periodically to breath. Just because the internet is down (and gasp) the rest of the world is no longer at your finger tips – the coffee pot STILL works. The rest of your computer works as well. Take this time to familiarize yourself with the other buttons on your desktop. Just don’t uninstall something important. This will lead to the redoing of steps 1 and 2.

Write a “How to” post

Such as this one.

Hit refresh 101 times

Just incase the first 100 times weren’t enough, the 101 time might just do the trick!

Be thankful you live in an era of telephones

Think of the olden days! When their internet went down they had to walk uphill both ways in a snow storm to ask for help! And then they were probably just turned around and told to “Unplug and hold the button for 5 seconds.” Ah yes. The great telephone!

Cry

Because nothing fixes a broken internet connection, or as the people on the other end of the line informed me “Area wide outage” like a good old fashion cry.

…and just when you think the internets will never return, they do.

Publish post you wrote while the ‘nets were down.

To not only alert people that you were offline, but to give them helpful hints, a cup of coffee and a sympathetic pat on the back.

Welcome back internets. We miss you while you are away!

And just for fun, you know you love your internet too much when:

The prospect of any phone conversation provokes an unreasonable level of anxiety.

You have a legit panic attack when you can’t reconnect to your WiFi network.

The last family argument you had was over chat.

You are reading this.

*None of the pictures in this post are mine

This week was a bit of a challenge for me (in a good way I suppose) in that I hardly EVER take a picture each day.  Most times I take pictures every few days or when something catches my eye – but very rarely do I have a picture from everyday.  Thus the reason I have never been able to successfully complete a 365 challenge.  But I got a picture everyday this week, not a good one, but atleast one.

08.13 – Someone got their rabies shot

08.14 – Pretty hair things Amanda sent me

08.15 – I love this quote.  Its in my journal.

08.16 – Been a beautiful week here!

08.17 – Pouting pup

08.18 – Notes from the week

08.19 – Flower

And now Nik will most likely sit in the corner to recover from his very much random week!

A big hello to everyone from England!

It was the last day of the London Olympics -the day of the marathon. David, JD and I decided to go to London to see what all the excitement was about.

We found a place to watch, near St James’ Park. At least I think it was St James’ Park… David later told me that was where we were because I didn’t know! Anyways, it was close to the start of the race, and that’s where we waited for the runners to come by.

Soon we heard a helicopter far away, it was slowly making its way towards us. “The helicopter must be filming the marathon” David said. “Ooooo I wondered what it was for!” I said. Then we heard it: a distant cheer from the crowd.

YAY!!!!!

We knew the runners were getting near!

Then suddenly, there they were, a whole group of them, running -speeding past as the crowd cheered and pressed against the fence. We cheered through all the noise. I yelled “GO USA!!!” And tried to connect the runners with their countries. Of course they were moving a bit too fast for that, though I thought I saw the USA. Then as suddenly as they came, they were gone.

“Well, that was that!” we thought, and we decided to go wander around London and take in the sights. David thought the London Monument would be a good place to go. So off we went…to catch the underground. We stopped for coffee first though. And watched the marathon live on the tv in the coffee shop.

Once we were on the underground, we were off, speeding towards the Monument. We walked off and carried JD in his stroller up the stairs to the street, a free lift for him, lucky guy! Suddenly, I heard a loud cheer coming from outside the station. I ran to the door and say a huge crowd gathered on the sides of the road. They were cheering..was it? Yes it was the marathon runners, coming by again! This time past the monument.

We ran over to where the crowd was gathered by the street. David gave me a piggy back so I could see above the crowds….

There they were. Running UP hill! London is flat, but there are slight inclines in places, and this happened to be one of them…there was music -played by a live band and someone on a megaphone who was announcing the runners as they ran past. We all cheered them on, and I yelled “GO GO GO YAY YAY!!” in David’s ear. We cheered until the last one had ran past.

Then we headed off again. David thought that St Paul’s would be a good place go. We walked and walked, and JD got his free ride in the stroller.

We arrived at St Paul’s, and rode a wheelchair life up the stairs -because of Jd’s stroller that is, or at least that was our excuse.

When we reached the top of the stairs we heard a familiar sound; a cheer from the crowd. We hurried over to the sidewalk ,towards the gathered crowds, and even found a spot right near the road. We had happened upon the runners yet again! There was bigger gaps between the runners by now. The marathon was almost over, and we were there near the end! We held Jd up so he could see them too and we could tell him someday that he had seen an Olympic event. 😀 Or maybe he can tell us about it, who knows. 😀 He held onto the side of the fence and was very excited waving his arms and kicking!

London was amazing.

We had been thinking to possibly avoid going, but decided last minute that to miss the entire Olympics would really be a shame. I mean, it was busy… but we didn’t get trampled in the crowds, or run anyone over with Jd’s stroller…so I’d say the day was a success. And we were really thankful that God led us, not only to watch the marathon runners speed by once, but three times!!! It was an exciting day.

Congrats to Stephen Kirprotich of Uganda on winning gold!

2 hours, 8 minutes, and 1 second to run over 26 miles and 385 yards was the winning time! Now that’s fast!!

The other day I was trying to make a comment on a family members blog.  I wrote the comment, entered my name, smiled happily and then it happened…the dreaded “Please prove you arent a robot” message appeared, and the fuzzy combination of letters and numbers that were unreadable and made absolutely NO sense taunted me.

Not one to be outdone by a computer, I set to work to crack this code.  Except that this code – was unreadable.  There was no way I could even make out the fuzzy numbers.  I blinked.  Closed my eyes for 10 seconds, shook my head, danced around, and even hit refresh a time or two, but was having no luck, each combination more and more complicated…and more and more unreadable.  It was then I noticed a little button beside the fuzzy combo.  An audio button.

“AHA!” I thought to myself.  “I will hear the numbers!” and so it was.

But the person saying the numbers and letters?  Was just as fuzzy as the letters themselves, as if she was reading it – fuzz and all!  I could not understand WHAT she was saying.  It was then I felt really stupid.  Unable to crack the fuzzy code, and unable to understand the person.  But again, not wanting to admit “Defeat by a computer” I pressed on.

I tried this and that.  I did my best to make out the letters and numbers, and tried my hardest to make sense of them, which is when it hit me – its possible the code wasn’t supposed to make sense!  I heard somewhere (pretty sure Amanda told me this) that they don’t HAVE to make the codes fuzzy.  As long as it is an image and not just letters – computers cant copy it.

But apparently, these codes are not to prevent computers from commenting – but rather the weak and unmotivated.  It was as if it was saying “You want to comment?  You really have to WANT to comment!” and that I did…I typed and pleaded, and shook and stumbled, and slurred out more combinations that I have ever done in my entire life – and just as I was about to lay down my keyboard and admit defeat – it happened.

“Thank you for being so stupid and humoring us all by your numerous attempts at posting a comment you have won the award for the most attempts at leaving a comment.”

And there it sat:

“Aw cute pictures!”

Staring back at me.

Now that I think about it, this might have been the internets way of telling me to leave a better comment moron, you would think after all that work, I would be satisfied with myself and/or comment, but instead I was annoyed.  All that work – for three words.

So if you get a comment from me – big or small, with or without spelling errors – know that I went through great lengths to post it.  And that I am NOT a robot!  Because if I were, it would have taken me ½ as much time.

Also, I realize that people who comment here go through great lengths as well – leaving a comment should NOT be so difficult, but apparently the internet powers to be want to keep us all safe from spam, even if our sanity is at stake!

This weeks “B’s” came from unexpected places.  I went for a few walks hoping to capture a “Bear” but the only bears I saw disappeared before I had a chance to get their picture.  Instead I had to settle for some hidden “B’s”

B is for:

“Berries”:

I have no idea what this is…a “Blue Berry” on a stick?:

“Belly”:

“Bubbles”:

“Bug”:

Earlier this week I told my sister (and co-blogger) Amanda (aka: Capn’ Manda) that the theme this week was “B” and she even got some “B” pictures from England!

B from England is for:

Big Ben!:

Lots of “B” in this next one!

“Baby, Big Boy, Blue, Bald!” (otherwise known as Judah (the cutest nephew EVER!) getting a free ride on his dads, dads shoulder!):

“Bye-Bye Baby Blue!”:

…and that concludes our B’s!
