Saturday, mom and I left on a trip. We left earlier than one should every be up on a Saturday.

Destination? San Diego!

Why San Diego? Why not?

We didn’t really have any particular reason in mind other than we we wanted to see the sun…

We arrived last night, got our rental car, drove in circles, finally found our motel, then headed out to get dinner. Forgetting it was Cinco De Mayo, we decided that since we were so close to the Mexican boarder, Mexican food would be good. I googled a few restaurants, picked one with good reviews that was still open and off we went. Except that when we got off the main road -the small streets were flooded with people dressed in various costumes.

There were lines snaking around the corner for the restaurant and no parking for as far as the eye could see.

We ditched that plan and ended up eating somewhere else instead, putting our Mexican food plans on hold.

This morning we decided to spend the day beach hopping. We hit up probably four or five different beaches. Found ice cream, navigated the seven lane freeways, took a nap then went for dinner in downtown San Diego.

So far we have compared it to just about everywhere else we have been: Hawaii, England, Mexico, Arizona…and while it does seem sort of like a melding pot of all those places and more -it is a place all of its own. With of course, lots and lots of sun!

Looks like a lot of fun! Treasure the time spent with your mom, and never take it for granted!
